Roger M. Shorr is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with over 20 years of experience in the financial services profession. He also holds the ChFC and CLU designations. In 1999, he received a certificate in Estate Planning and Taxation from the American College for graduate level achievement.
Roger has been published nationally in Barron’s, Trusts and Estates and Investopedia. He wrote an article entitled, “The Three Golden Rules of Investing” that was published by Forbes.com. As a result of the article, Forbes.com invited him to New York and on April 20, 2007, he was interviewed by John Dobosz, Senior Editor of Forbes.com. During this interview, Roger explained the importance of three essential investment principles.
Roger has given dozens of seminars on a number of different financial topics to the public, accounting firms, law firms, associations, and companies. He presented an in-depth presentation to the top producers and senior management of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America in 1999 at St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. He has also presented to the Baltimore Chapter of the FPA (Financial Planning Association), the annual convention of the Maryland Nurses Association, and the Association of Philippine Physicians in Maryland.
Roger continues to be an advocate of sticking to the basics. He has on many occasions stated that when it comes to investing, no one can predict the future but unfortunately, too many people think they can or spend too much time listening to others who think they can. In addition, there are all kinds of “systems” and exotic investments being promoted in the marketplace. Investor success is seldom a result of these approaches. Roger champions the idea that a good plan, a well-diversified portfolio, a sound program of savings (for those in the accumulation stage), and good investor behavior are keys to success for prudent investors.
Roger has been married to his wife, Jennifer, since 1984. They have a son, Mark, and a daughter, Danielle. Mark is a portfolio associate at PIMCO, in Newport Beach, CA. Mark graduated in 2010 from the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in College Park and has been a Surf Rescue Technician (lifeguard) for Ocean City, MD. Mark has been credited with saving many lives. Danielle attends Towson University and is studying to be a middle school science teacher. She was a member of the Vipers, which has won numerous events, and has participated and won in the nationals. Roger and Jennifer live in Fallston, MD.
